Silke Z. & die metabolisten

Each of the invited guest performances in the DIVERSITY series is accompanied by a duo dance piece by Silke Z. with dancers from the ensemble die metabolisten, in which the transgenerative perspective on the content of the guest performance is taken up.
Karel and Hanna put themselves in each other’s skin. Themes such as age, shame, belonging and touch are negotiated. The skin as a border to the world offers both performers the possibilities of opening up and communication, as well as resistance and withdrawal.

WORKSHOPS FOR STUDENTS

NEW: In 2024, there will be a professional artistic production with students under the artistic direction of Silke Z. in addition to the workshops within the framework of the mediation program.

The mediation program DanceMediation – THE EMPATHIC BODY is centrally based on the transfer of choreographic methods on the topics of empathy (2020-2023), distance (2021), imitation (2022) and manipulation (2023), which will be taught in workshops and advanced training courses to students and teachers in schools in Cologne and NRW as well as in Munich.

The educational program will take place alongside the stage productions by Silke Z. and the ensemble die metabolisten.

Students are invited to attend the professional rehearsal processes and to participate in the development of material (movement and texts). In this way, the U20 generation “advises” the artistic team and becomes part of the creative-artistic output.

The content is communicated to students and teachers in schools and in cooperation with other institutions in Cologne with the help of analog and digital workshops. If there are further school closures due to the pandemic, we will switch to purely digital teaching and reflection. In these formats, the students and teachers will nevertheless gain practical, dance-based experience on the topic and work together. The project also includes participation in rehearsals and performances as part of the productions, possibly in the form of live stream formats.

Many of the current social problems are caused by people experiencing a lack of self-worth, self-efficacy and social recognition. Especially in times of pandemic, isolation and “social distancing” exacerbate this problem. What is one’s own – and idiosyncratic – must be constantly hemmed in to predetermined guidelines. As a result, the richness of individual potential and confidence in one’s own abilities and needs are lost. The resulting feelings of alienation are in turn compensated for by devaluing other perspectives and life plans. A vicious circle with visibly destructive consequences for democratic and solidary coexistence: isolation, narcissism and feelings of loss of meaning increase. Empathy falls by the proverbial wayside.

The large-scale participation project DanceMediation THE EMPATHIC BODY   is based – instead of external performance requirements – on the stubbornness and potential of each individual. Thus, this concept initiates a fundamental change of perspective towards a contemporary understanding of education, which is able to promote a more social cooperation in the sense of strengthening community and self-efficacy.

The main target group for the outreach program are students (children and young people), teachers and the lecturers who would like to participate in workshops between 2021 and 2023.

NEW: WE | PRIMETIME – Student production under the artistic direction of Silke Z.

In addition to the workshops as part of the education program, there will be a professional artistic production with students under the artistic direction of Silke Z. in 2024.

The student production WE | PRIMETIME will be created as part of the mediation program under the artistic direction of Silke Z. resistdance and her mediation team of dancers from the ensemble »die metabolisten«. WE | PRIMETIME will be created with around 16 pupils from the partner schools (Albertus-Magnus-Gymnasium, Kaiserin-Theophanu-Schule, Städtisches Gymnasium Kreuzgasse) in two weekend workshops.

The public presentation of the dance production will take place on 28.01 at 7 pm at ehrenfeldstudios. Admission: 5€

Guest performance in Vilnius, Lithuania

In WITH US, the three dancing bodies of different ages become landscapes that are relentlessly open and surveyed with a radical eye for all details in order to uncover the information they harbour.  WITH US vividly shows how the bodies and the landmarks attached to them provide information about their owners without being asked and divide them into categories such as disabled, old, privileged. Characteristics such as skin colour, wrinkles, scars, facial features, pigmentation or hair structure become landmarks on the map of social standardisation.

The dance and performative measurement takes place between two generations that rarely encounter each other so directly and physically. WITH US creates an intergenerational questioning and encounter in which eye level and categories such as age, disability and skin colour are negotiated. Prejudices, privileges and visibility are negotiated through play and reflected with great political relevance.

WITH US is an intergenerational dance performance with three dancers of the ensemble die metabolisten by choreographer Silke Z. The performance is based on two duos (“WITH US. Karel meets David” and “WITH US. Karel meets Hanna”), which were created in 2022 and 2023 as part of the guest performance series DIVERSITY and were further developed and elaborated into a full-length piece.

GUEST PERFORMANCE IN BONN:
WE. The empathic body Vol. 1 „QUINTET VERSION“

We are emotional.
We are resilient.
We are dependent.
We are loving.
We are uncertain.
We are jealous, assaulting, grateful.
We are strange, tender, ignorant, freaky.
We are online.
We are diverse.

Humans as social beings have the ability to empathise with others, to put
themselves in their place, to take the place of the other. WE transfers the
natural forms of emotional contagion into dance-choreographic settings. The
performers walk tightrope between attraction and aversion, affection and
assault.

In WE, Silke Z.’s ensemble die metabolisten negotiates empathy and
faces the invasive, encroaching side of empathy. This first production of the
project THE EMPATHIC BODY lays the foundation for a perennial
examination of the topic of empathy. The intergenerational company is
looking for new performative perspectives to approach the complexity of
themes and cultivate feelings of WE.

DEINE WAHL!

The empathic body vol. 3

In the third and last part of the series THE EMPATHIC BODY , Silke Z. and die metabolisten put themselves and their audience to the test: they explore the limits of empathy and throw themselves into absurd situations on stage, which resembles an arena.

Sound designer Sarah Procissi and songwriter Nikolaj Grunwald push the performers into an extreme display of their supposed individuality and uniqueness. What at the beginning seems like a “normal” casting show, disassembles itself in the course of time and at the same time pushes the machinery of show business to the extreme.

Die metabolisten challenge the audience to leave their comfort zone of anonymity and present them with a choice over and over again – it’s YOUR CHOICE!

N@H_WIE_FERN | ANDREA MARTON, SILKE Z.

THE PROJECT N@H_WIE_FERN IS A CROSS-REGIONAL SHARING OF DANCE-ARTISTIC METHODS BETWEEN THE CHOREOGRAPHERS ANDREA MARTON FROM MUNICH AND SILKE Z. FROM COLOGNE. BOTH SELECT A DANCE-ARTISTIC METHOD THAT IS PRESENT AND PROMINENT IN THEIR CURRENT WORK TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE TO THE OTHER FOR TESTING, DEVELOPING IT FURTHER IN A DIALOGICAL WAY WITHIN A LABORATORY FORMAT.

Both work participatively with intergenerational groups in public and informal spaces and make people over and under 60 visible in their work. In the exchange of methods, scores, results and in parallel work, a sustainable and artistic connection between the groups in Cologne and Munich is created, which culminates in a showing and a symposium on 10 December (10-17.00) in Munich. The symposium will include a ThinkTank with dance practitioners and cultural institutions to jointly negotiate success factors and quality criteria. The symposium is sponsored by the Munich Department of Culture.

n@h_wie_fern: Symposium on dance education and dance art in intergenerational projects

Silke Z/Cologne and Andrea Marton/tog@ther/Munich will give insights into their methodical approaches to artistic work with intergenerational groups in two practical workshops. The result of three months of sharing can be seen in the form of a short performance with tog@ther, a Munich project group by Andrea Marton with people between the ages of 14 and 82.

DATE
10 December 10 am – 3 pm
Studio 2, Kreativquartier, Dachauerstr. 112

Afterwards (4-6 p.m.), there will be a moderated Think Tank on the success factors of intergenerational projects: dance professionals and people from the cultural and funding landscape of the city of Munich and the surrounding area are invited to take part in the discourse.
