Antonio Cabrita – Tanz
Antonio Cabrita –dance
was born in 1982 in Barreiro-Portugal. He has a degree in dance by the Superior Dance School in Lisbon (2008), was formed in the the National Conservatoire’s Dance School (2000), he also studied dance at the Joffrey Ballet School in NY (2001), cinema at the New York Film Academy (2001), and studied advertising at the Restart - School of Creativity and New Technologies in Lisbon (2004).
Still in NY he worked as a performer and directed is first short-film named “Maçã”. Back in Portugal, he collaborated with independent projects, did exhibitions as a photographer and composed the original score for three plays and two movies. As a film-maker he directed several short films and dance films.
In 2003 he founded an alternative place - Espaço M - in Lisbon, aiming to bring art and viewers together in an interactive way. Between 2003 and 2005 he directed two independent projects - Solos 1=1+3+12+132 and ÉHORA.
In April 2006 was invited by Rui Horta to participate in the Colina Project in Newcastle, England.
During the last two years he worked with the choreographers Rui Horta and Né Barros, between others. With his solo “Volatil” he was invited to participate in the first solo dance festival in Lisbon.
He worked in a new media and technology project named EDGE.
He was invited to participate in a new media and technology performance by the Imperial College of London.
As an actor he did a short-film named Dido e Eneias, and a feature film named Pele. With Éhora project he was invited to participate in the International Dance Festival Rèperages 2007 in Lille – France, and in the artistic-residence in Porto-Portugal.
In 2008 he was invited by the Portuguese choreographer Paulo Ribeiro to collaborate in a project with children named “projecto 3008”.
At this moment, he is working in Germany with Silke Z in a project named Private Spaces, collaborating as an actor with the theatre company Teatro em Branco, touring with is last dance film IIB, developing a multimedia performance for a project in the Evora Dance Company, and was invited to collaborate with a Portuguese magazine named Volte Face.
